~ The gel of the aloe vera plant is widely used in the cosmetic and medical sectors due to the vitamins and minerals it contains. A study conducted by a group of scientists at Texas Rio Grande Valley University revealed that the peels of this plant are as beneficial as the gel. Because a compound obtained from the bark of the plant disturbs and repels insects that damage crops. The use of the compound in agriculture could provide significant benefits by ending chemical pesticide use. Speaking about the study, project lead researcher Dr. Debasish Bandyopadhyay states that the idea that Aloe vera bark could be used as an insecticide first emerged during a visit to a local Aloe vera production centre, when it was noticed that although insects were attacking the leaves of other plants, they were leaving the Aloe vera leaves alone. ~ To build more powerful processors, Intel plans on using glass instead of plastic for the base layer of the company’s computer chips. The change promises to help Intel pack even more “chiplets” and electrical interconnects on its processors. In addition, the glass material can withstand higher temperatures for better stability during the chip-making phase. DETAIL
~ Engineers working with the European Space Agency have developed a new thruster design smaller than the tip of your finger. Despite its small size, this mini-thruster designed for CubeSats appears to be highly efficient without the use of toxic chemicals. Called the Iridium Catalysed Electrolysis CubeSat Thruster (ICE-Cube Thruster), it allows CubeSats to maneuver without bulky gas propellant storage. The thruster uses an electrolyzer to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen, which is expelled into space, pushing the spacecraft in the opposite direction. DETAIL
